IT WAS her nanna’s cooking lessons that inspired Christine Buckley to live a life dedicated to the creation of fine food.

From the humble beginnings in her grandparents’ country kitchen, Mrs Buckley has gone onto forge a busy career in catering.

The idea behind Christine Buckley Catering was first sparked after the busy mother of three helped raise funds for the Oakey Primary School.

The school was in need of computers, so Mrs Buckley did what she does best and donned an apron.

“The school told me that if I wanted computers for the school then I would have to fund-raise.

“Well that was waving a red flag at a bull.

“In the first 12 months we (the Parents and Citizen’s Association) raised enough money to buy 40 lap tops.”

Mrs Buckley raised the funds by cooking for a variety of morning teas, afternoon teas and corporate lunches. Soon the word spread and people looking for a caterer in Oakey turned to Mrs Buckley.

In 2000 she launched her own catering business and now enjoys spending her days cooking and creating for weddings, corporate functions and parties as well as for events at the Jondaryan Woolshed.

She even employs 15 people to lend a hand.

“I have always loved to cook and loved food,” Mrs Buckley said.

“My favourite hobby is reading recipe books. I cook to relax; other people knit, but I cook.

“I have catered for an intimate three-course dinner for a couple — during which the man proposed — right up to events for 600 people.”

Since 1990 Christine has been involved in many forms of Catering. In 2000 she made this formal and started "Christine Buckley Catering. She specialise in fresh, home made, modern Australian food.
